Senior fitness apps in 2026: 79 apps, 44 of them new, and one complaint in eight of the twelve leaders

Fitness for older adults is open and newcomers are taking it. 79 apps, 44 launched in the last 18 months, and those new apps hold 72% of the niche's review pace. Three tai chi apps launched in February 2026 alone and each passed 1,300 ratings by August. Two 2022 incumbents hold the ratings lead at around 13,000 each. The one star reviews of eight of the twelve leaders say the same thing: the listing said free, the app wanted a card on day one. No app in this niche has an individually researched band, so the read here is demand, crowding, and reviews.

What the niche is

Exercise for people who will not get on the floor and do not want to be shouted at. Chair yoga, tai chi, seated dance, balance work, walking. Sessions are short, the pace is slow, and the promise is steadiness: keep up with the grandkids, stand without a wobble.

It sits under home fitness. Ten sub-niches: chair exercise (23 apps), tai chi and qigong for seniors and beginners (16), all-round workouts for older adults (15), coach-led memberships for over 50s (8), tai chi walking (5), chair workouts for men over 50 (3), dance workouts for over 50s (3), balance and fall prevention (2), learning a full tai chi form (2), and pool workouts (2).

Band: our researched estimate of peak monthly revenue, published only for apps we have researched one by one. Every app in the catalog sits above the $5k a month floor.

Two incumbents share the top on ratings. Chair Yoga for Seniors from Young Aces launched in February 2024, has 13,503 ratings, and adds 460 a month. Light from Enerjoy launched in September 2022, has 13,091, and adds 281 a month. Both sell a yearly plan and both carry the loudest one star reviews in the niche.

One publisher holds five of the top twelve. Fast Builder Limited, with a 31-app portfolio, runs SeniorFit (8,500 ratings since 2022), Tai Chi for Beginners Seniors (7,307 ratings in eleven months, 696 a month, the fastest in the niche), Chair Yoga for Seniors at Home, Chair Workout for Men, and a chair tai chi app launched in May 2026. Same template, one audience at a time.

The February 2026 wave is tai chi. Prodigy AI, Dmytro Hrechko, and Yuan Qi each launched a tai chi app for seniors and beginners within the same month. They have 3,630, 2,407, and 1,378 ratings six months later, adding 660, 415, and 235 a month. Near-identical names, near-identical listings, and all three are growing.

Everdance is the odd one: seated dance for women over 40, running since April 2020, 3,561 ratings, 47 a month.

How they make money

Yearly at $29.99 to $79.99, with $99.99 at the top of Prodigy AI's ladder. Fast Builder's apps list a yearly premium at every price from $29.99 to $69.99 and a portfolio pass at $83.99.

Monthly at $9.99 to $34.99. Yogio charges $44.99 for one month and $104.99 for six, the highest in the niche. Everdance sells a week at $9.99.

Seven of twelve leader listings mention a trial in front of the subscription. That trial is where the one star reviews start.

The angles that get installs

  • yoga from the chair24 apps
  • tai chi for balance in older adults9 apps
  • work out from a chair7 apps
  • tai chi done entirely from a chair3 apps

Eleven apps lead with the chair, and nine of twelve leader listings name it. The chair is the promise: you do not have to get down and you do not have to get up. The second angle is tai chi, in six of twelve leader listings and named 101 times in the five star reviews of nine leaders. The third is the audience in the title: seniors, beginners, men over 50, women over 40.

The word free sits in eight of twelve leader listings, mostly in the trial terms. The reviews read it as a promise.

Phrases that recur in one and two star reviews across 9 of the niche's top 12 apps.

Across all twelve leaders, one complaint dominates and two follow.

It said free. The listing says free, the promotion says free, the onboarding asks its questions, and then a seven day trial wants a card. "Free trial" recurs 61 times in the one star reviews of eight leaders, "false advertising" 28 times in six, "say free" 20 times in six, "rip off" in seven.

I am still being charged. "Cancel subscription" recurs 23 times in five leaders, "year subscription" in five: subscription expired and the card still billed, or a paid year that vanished after two months with no reply to email.

I cannot get in. "Customer service" recurs in six leaders, "won't let" in five: cannot get past sign-up as an existing subscriber, app will not open, support link leads somewhere unrelated.

What works, from the five star side

"Easy to follow" recurs 69 times in the five star reviews of ten leaders, "first day" 63 times in ten, "tai chi" 101 times in nine, "each day" in eight. The five star product is a clear instructor, a slow pace, and a session that changes so the user comes back tomorrow.

What to copy and what to avoid

From the price sheets and the pooled reviews above.

Copy: tai chi. Six of twelve leader listings carry it, the five star reviews name it 101 times across nine leaders, and the three February 2026 tai chi launches all sit in the top twelve.

Copy: a session that changes. "Each day" recurs in the five star reviews of eight leaders, "easy to follow" in ten.

Copy: the price shape on the sheets. Yearly at $29.99 to $79.99, monthly at $9.99 to $34.99.

Avoid: the word free in a listing that bills. "Free trial" recurs 61 times in the one star reviews of eight leaders, "false advertising" 28 times in six.

Avoid: billing that outlives the subscription. "Cancel subscription" recurs in five leaders, "year subscription" in five.

Avoid: a support link that goes nowhere. "Customer service" recurs in the one star reviews of six leaders.

Our read: with no leader banded and Crowding at 23, the first app with a plain price and an answered support inbox takes the reviews the leaders are losing.
